Resident medical information systems
Author Last Post

Most of the independent living residents do not use the Healow app. We continue to receive printed copies after our medical center visits and get appointment cards for next visits. The residents in skilled nursing records are managed by the nursing staff.

I’m wondering how compatible E-Clinicalworks is with the needs of the skilled nursing facilities at your CCRC’s? And how do your less tech-savvy residents deal with the Healo interface? Any digital app would be beyond the grasp of many of the nonagenarian independent living residents where I live.

I live at Cypress Cove CCRC in Ft Myers and we recently implemented E-Cinical works and are just rolling out the patient portal, Healow. So far it is working out for us.

Our large CCRC uses eClinicalWorks for the electronic medical record. We also can use the portal which is Healow. Lab work, medications, and summary reports are available on an App. We are managed by Erickson Senior Living.

Ms. Martin, I live at Goodwin House, Alexandria, VA. Our medical records are stored within MatrixCare, a software system that seems to be used here by a wide variety of internal departments, including medical records. My understanding is that what is retained in this way is largely limited to what we have self-reported as to allergies, pre-existing conditions, medications, POA, etc. This information is shared by the institution with the hospital when one of the residents is sent to the ER. Since Goodwin House includes a skilled nursing facility and rehab unit, this information sharing allows our administration to track our admission status, and coordinate the discharge and return to an appropriate level of living.

We also have a resident medical director who is a qualified geriatrician, and who is affiliated with one of the local hospitals.

My personal opinion is that the medical records maintained by this physician through the hospital, and shared with EPIC are the most up-to-date and informative. As you may know, EPIC holds 78% of the medical records in the U.S. It is used by most major hospital systems and many doctor's offices.

Unfortunately, I believe Matrixcare and EPIC are not interoperable; so, our "in-house" records are not visible to EPIC, and vice versa.

Hello….I serve on the Health Fitness and Wellness committee in a private not for profit CCRC. We have less than 400 residents.

Does anyone know if your medical clinic keeps resident medical data electronically? Ours currently does not as far as we know. Does your clinic use a commercial automated system for keeping health data updated? If so we’d love to know the name.

Thanks! Heather Martin.
